December Blogs

3. December. 2009

Very simple for this week: Describe how you plan to organize your final portfolio for this class (for example, are you placing all of your drafts on a single page? Do you have individual pages for each blog posting? etc.). Why did you choose this form of organization? How are you planning on making the portfolio aesthetically appealing (for example, are you adding images, videos, making sure you have a consistent font)? How are you making the page personal (for example, are you providing an "About Me" section)?

The opening page for my portfolio will be an about me section. This is where I will tell the reader a little about my background. Following that, I will have all my blogs. However, I will split my blogs up by month. Each month will have their own separate page. This will prevent too much information being on one page, which will cause the viewer to become bored. At the end of each page I put an image that somewhat relates to the month that the page is about. I also created a link to the next page that enables the viewer to navigate throughout the portfolio easily. As far as my essays are concerned, I have not yet made a final decision on how I want to organize them. I was considering creating PDF files for each essay and creating different pages for the rough draft, final draft, and revision. I figured each topic should have its own page because there is a lot of information within each paper. I do not want to create one long page of information. If everything is on one page, I assumed the viewer will eventually get tired of scrolling and lose interest of the story. I plan on adding images to the pages to keep the viewers attention. However,I am not sure of what kinds of images I want to include. I do know that the images I do select will be colorful and go with the background. For my "About Me" section, I will include a picture of me and some of my interest, talents, hobbies, and what I want to do with my life. I was also thinking about providing a photo gallery of my life at BSU mainly in English class. For my introduction, I am going to created a page entitled, "What I Like About You". That page will discuss how the essays and weekly blogs benefit me, what I liked and dislike about the class, and how I feel my improvement throughout the class was.

10. December. 2009

As I have mentioned several times in class, grading is a subjective endeavour and any grade you receive in the class is somewhat negotiable. This is especially true with your final grade in the class. For this final blog posting, I would like you to write about what grade you think you deserve in the class and why. Cite specific examples of things you accomplished, why you weren't able to accomplish other things (ex. why weren't you able to complete all the blog postings on time, etc.), and the overall progress you feel you've made in the course. I will take your remarks into consideration when calculating your final grades in the course.

For this course I believe I deserve to get an "A" for my grade. I feel this way because I have pushed myself beyond the unthinkable in order to do well in the class. I have only missed one day of class and that was only because I was sick and had to sort out some personal issues in regards to business at Ball State University. Every paper of mine that was critique by you, I have done what you asked me to do and more. I have challenged myself to write a paper that hit very close to home to me. There have been many times where I had wanted to give up on some assignments, but I didn't. I pushed myself to be better than what I was and get the job done. I indeed missed two blog postings throughout the semester. However, after I was warned about the danger of missing blogs, I have not missed a blog since then. I pay attention and participate in class. I have made great overall progress throughout the course of this semester. I feel my writing skills have gotten stronger, I have grown as a person, and I look at English in a different way. I use the things I have learned in the class and apply them outside of the classroom. I am more focused and I find myself staying on topic more. This class has taught me time management, patience, and how to take constructive criticism. I have worked hard in this class and I deserve to get an "A". In regards to my essays, I have gotten a low "A" on every single one because I always come up a little short in regards to grammatical and format errors. Now, I take the time to proofread all of my work before handing it in. Overall, I deserve this grade because I push myself to be better and I have done everything asked of me plus more.
